It's always better to start at the beginning...

"it's always better to start at the beginning"
(Glinda the Good Witch)

It was whilst I was watching my favorite film today, (the Wizard of Oz) that I heard this line, and it struck me that it was the perfect quote for today - being January 1st and all.

One of my wishes for the New Year (see my last post) was to make some art everyday.
So today, although the day is almost done, I'm still going to make a little time to do some art.
I'm going to start at the beginning of a new journal/sketchbook (the HARDEST place to start) and I'm going to keep on going everyday until I have filled it.

I'm also going to make a start on my Book of Days that I'll be doing in an altered book that I prepared the other day.

LooK...

I've had this book for years, and yes it's a lovely book, but I was getting rid of it to make room for new books.
It should work really well, its a good shape, and I can hopefully incorporate some of the images in my page too.

I had to gesso the cover to make it easier to paint on.
But now it's ready to start, all that I need to do now is watch the class videos so I know what to do. (might be a good idea)

I thought I'd show you this too...

It's not a finished piece or anything,
it's just a detail from my new year journal page...
but I like it.

Oh, and I did a little doodle too.
I was trying out my copic markers that I've had for ages.

And last but not least,

I created a new page on the blog for freebies, (look at the tabs)
my little gifts to you for being such fabulous friends and followers.
Feel free to print them off and alter to your hearts content.

ooh this is going to be a GREAT year for
ART
EYE
CANDY
and
ME

and
YOU.

This is a super way to go. I like to think of everyday is a new beginning. Hey, why does the 'Shine' gal not really shining? Is it a juxtaposition? Enjoy, feel free, M

Happy New Year Rachelle. I've got to admit I felt a pang when I saw the gesso on that gorgeous book cover, but I know it will look even more beautiful in its new incarnation. And I love your doodle.

Hi Kirsten,
Thanks for stopping by the blog... I know what you mean about the book, it IS very nice, but it's old and needs a new life. Hopefully I'll be able to still show some of the images in my work.
Glad you like the doodle :D

Hi M,
The beginning is the only place to start each day :), and yes, she does look a little grumpy. Lol
