Curly Girl...

This little sweet face might look quite a lot different from the art I usually do, and it is.  This little face is something that I've been working on for my Masters Degree in Children's Book Illustration.  I started back in September and have so far have made two 'dummy books' and finally started making color studies for my actual book. So I thought it would be nice to show some of the pictures I've taken...

This is her little coat.  I cut out each piece of the jacket separately and painted them using watercolours and watercolour inks.  It took ages, especially doing the patterns and buttons (which you can see on the finished images), and my eyes were very tired afterwards - or is that just my age?

I used Dylusions spray inks for the background and hair, and on the face I used Gouache and Prismacolor pencil crayons.

She even got a little cut-out puppy.  He's gouache and prismacolors with watercolour ink for his collar and lead.
She got a little bow to match her scarf.  You can see the tiny buttons that I mentioned earlier.

Love how the inks have dried on the 'grass'.

Here's the finished color study.  Although she won't make the book I'm pretty happy how she turned out and now I've got more ideas about what to do next time.  Looks like I'll be busy over Christmas.

So what are you up to?  I'd love to hear all about it.
